Health CLINIC
Many children suffer and some die as a result of various diseases such as malaria, flu, diarrhea, acute respiratory infections, typhoid, HIV/AIDs, injuries from a fall, and burns among many others. Several issues exist causing lack of medical care. Hospitals (government and/or private) are not located near our school. There is no proper road network. Roads are impassable during rainy seasons and there is no proper means of transportation during emergencies. The high cost of medication and the lack of availability of drugs at the government hospital make it difficult for the children and teachers to access medical intervention when they fall sick.
It is upon this background that Children of Purpose/orphanage is praying for the construction of a clinic within the school compound to meet the immediate medical needs of the children and the teachers. Children of Purpose School currently has a small First -Aid area. Most of the times the shelves are empty due to lack of medication, thermometers, or even First- Aid Kits. With the establishment of a school clinic the following will be achieved: emergency cases will be handled quickly, less absenteeism from school, reduction of the cost of medical services/ medicines, and there will be a strong tie between the school and the community. The school hopes to hire a nurse who will help in the general healthcare of the children and a doctor to visit once a month or on call at any time there is an emergency.
Counseling
The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed children and adolescents globally to diverse challenges leading to mental health issues. The pandemic has left many families jobless and in hunger. Additional issues include increased social isolation, early pregnancies, new HIV/ AIDs infections, alcohol/drug abuse, robberies, violence, deaths that left many more orphaned and more exposure to serious crimes. All these factors have negatively impacted the development of our children and adolescent’s health with some facing severe mental health issues. We have had to engage children in much counseling, prayers, and teaching God’s word that have brought back sanity in the lives of the children and the community at large.
Sanitary Supplies
There is a need to have sufficient hygiene facilities available within the reach of the children and teachers. This includes access to basic hand=washing facilities, sanitary supplies for the adolescent girls, and enough food for proper nutrition.
Community Medical Camps
Eventually, our school would like to organize medical camps in Village of Bondo as well as surrounding rural area where people are neither able to afford medical treatment nor have any basic knowledge regarding health and hygiene. Through the medical Camp programs people will be given various tips on health issues. In addition, basic health problems and sicknesses will be diagnosed early and treatments administered. The doctor will also be able to make referrals on complicated issues in government specialized hospitals.
